NEOA League RULES – revised February 2002.
The competition
Normally takes place over eight nominated colour coded events during the
course of a calendar year which runs from January to December (to avoid
confusion over age class changes). They will be selected by the League
coordinator from events organised by clubs within the NEOA region.
There is an individual competition for each of the BOF age classes and
a club competition based on the best 15 individual club members scores
in a prescribed range of classes (see below).
Qualification
The competition is open to all members of the NEOA, from both open and
closed clubs.
Recommended courses for competitors to run in are as follows:

Entries
There are no entry requirements, all eligible names (ie current members
of NEOA) in the official results of each of the events are automatically
included in the Galoppen tables.
Scoring
In each class, the fastest eligible NEOA competitor scores 1000 points
(based on running speed in mins/km), whether running in or above class
(not below) and irrespective of their finish position in the event.
Competitors are allowed to run below class, but points will be awarded
on the basis of a percentage difference between the two courses (see example
1). Competitors running below class can only score a maximum of the percentage
of the course differentials. So if that competitor runs faster than the
correct class leader, then his time becomes the base for runners on that
course (see example 2).
The score of all other competitors in each class is calculated as follows:
| Fastest class speed (mins/km) x 1000 |
|
| Competitors speed (mins/km) |
If running below class, this is multiplied by
| Competitors course length |

| Class course length |
- Example 1:
An M55 runs light green (3km) with a calculated speed of 10mins/km,
the fastest M55 ran green (4km) with a calculated speed of 9mins/km.
Points would be awarded as follows
| 9 x 1000 |
|

= 675 points |
| 10 |

- Example 2:
An M21 runs blue (6km) with a calculated speed of 10mins/km, a second
runner on blue runs with a calculated speed of 11mins/km, the fastest
M21 on brown (8km) had a calculated speed of 12mins/km. Points would
be awarded as follows:
M21 on brown would score 1000 points, leading M21 on blue would score
6/8*1000=750 points. Other runners on blue would score as follows:
Individual competition
The final score for each individual is the sum of their four best scores,
or their total score if competing at less than four events. A tie for
first place will be decided by the next best score. Out of the four events,
two must be from events organised by clubs other than the individuals
‘home’ club.
Certificates to be awarded to the class winners at the end of the year.
Club competition
The club score is the total of their 15 best competitors in the following
groups:
Junior Two from M/W10-18
Senior Two from M20-35
Two from M40-45
Two from W20-45
Veteran Two from M/W50-65+
Plus any other five.
